Last week, I started offering hints for how to begin a new exercise program. Now, once you’ve seen your doctor and thought of an exercise routine that you think fits your personality, it’s time to get started. Here’s what you should consider.
1. Don’t think – just do! Once you’ve decided that you are ready to join a gym, or you’re willing to try out a Bender Ball for 5 minutes a day, or you bought running shoes and want to walk each day – just do it! Don’t think about it or talk about it anymore. Just get out there and start.
2. Set realistic goals – Now, you need to be gentle and realistic with yourself. Don’t assume that you’ll exercise six days a week for one hour. Create realistic goals and try to stick to them, gently in the beginning.
3. Chart it – Keep a chart of your progress, writing down how long you worked out, what exercise you did, and how you felt afterwards. Hopefully, this will show you how you are building up your stamina and changing along the way.

It’s never easy to start a new exercise program. First, you have to decide what type of exercise you’re willing to commit to and to stick with. Then, you need to get started. Here are some tips for finding the right routine for yourself and getting the ball rolling.
1. Doctor Visit – The first thing you need to do before starting any exercise routine is to see the doctor. Sure, you can start using the Bender Ball or going to the gym without a doctor’s visit. But, it’s always a good idea to have a checkup and to get the doctor’s advice about the best exercise routine for your needs.
2. Think about your personality – Next, you need to be honest with yourself. Sure, you’d like to think that you will enjoy doing aerobics 3 times a week, but will you really stick to it? Or, is this what your friends do and it would be nice to think you’d enjoy it as well? Consider your personality and try to find something that you really think you can stick to.

Certainly, looking great is wonderful. And we all want to go to the beach and look our best as the weather starts to turn nicer. This, in and of itself, however, is not even the main benefit of having a strong stomach. There are many other reasons that being fit and working out are so important.
A strong stomach also means a strong back. Many people have back problems today and a lot of the issues actually stem from the stomach. When you strengthen your stomach, you are building up your back muscles and helping your body to be stronger and more sturdy. In addition, building up your stomach muscles offers you a way to pick up objects and to support your body more easily. You’ll notice yourself having more energy and being able to move and pick up objects that you could never move before.
These are a few of the many reasons to use a bender ball, a weight machine or another piece of equipment to strengthen your stomach. You’ll thank your stomach for the many benefits soon!

I’m still in awe of my first five days of January. Usually, the new year is filled with all sorts of guilt because I’ve already broken my best New Year’s resolutions by this point! It only takes a day or two for me to start regretting what I’ve done and to wonder how to get back to my commitment. This year, however, I turned around yesterday and realized that I didn’t even have exercise as part of my New Year resolution. Why? Certainly not because I’ve suddenly decided that I no longer need to exercise!
Rather, I’ve been doing such a great job exercising and using my bender ball and my gym membership that I didn’t even feel like I needed to put it in my list of New Year’s resolutions. And that has been an absolutely amazing realization. It means I don’t feel guilty – and that I DO feel great. I’m not resolving to exercise this year – I’m simply DOING IT!

According to Leslee Bender, the creator of the original Bender Ball, the way to get the best results from the Bender Ball is through core training. With over 25 years of experience in fitness, health and exercise, Leslee has come to the conclusion that
“one MUST learn to activate their core before ever moving forward into any kind of exercise program.”
Leslee Bender asserts that using her tried and true Method of Core Training practitioners will finally be able to feel all their abdominal muscles, perhaps even for the first time. This includes the side obliques, upper abs and even the difficult to get to deep lower abs.

In the traditional method of doing crunches, you must lay down on your back, or else you stay a bit elevated off the floor. Not only can this cause strain on your back which can be harmful, but it is also difficult, if not impossible to create extension of your abdominals in this position. With the help of the Bender Ball, extension is easily achieved while at the same time reducing the dangerous strain on the back. This is why using the Bender Ball is like doing twice the amount of exercise with the same amount of effort. As a matter of fact, tests have shown that with the Bender Ball it is possible to get 408% more exercise with the same amount of effort doing a standard crunch-style sit-up.

My wife and I went away for the weekend. The kids were happy to stay at home and party with their friends. Even though we only went from Thursday night to Sunday night, we still brought along our Bender Balls. We knew we would probably go out to some really nice restaurants, and we didnt want to have to scrimp on what we ordered. Its so annoying to ask “does this have mayonaisse? Is this made with butter?” Or order chicken when you really want red meat! So we decided we could splurge on the calories guilt-free if we stuck with our exercise routine. And you know what? We really did it. We had some great meals in a few really spiffy restaurants, and we spent about 10 minutes each day before we went down to the pool crunching abs and really taking care of ourselves. Bender Ball made it real easy and fun.

My wife and I are thinking about taking a little trip, maybe up to the mountains for the weekend, or maybe we’ll even go for a week with the kids. One thing I’m really glad about is that I dont have to worry about my exercise routine, because it is so easy to take the Bender Ball along. And since we only need to do our cruches about 10 minutes each day, it will be easy to take the time out of our sightseeing and relaxing for a few minutes of my enjoyable Bender Ball workout. My wife feels the same way. I feel so lucky that I found this easy, fast and effective way to exercise.

Well Summer is finally here! The kids are out of school and I can work shorter hours, and my wife can relax more since she isn’t driving the kids to all their activities and doesn’t have to nag them as much about doing their homework. But one thing that hasn’t changed is our regular use of our Bender Balls. I think I mentioned that my son was using his and he really helped him keep in shape for football. His coach was so impressed he asked my son if something changed. Even though my son is scared of his coach and doesn’t like to talk to him, he finally told him that he started crunching with a Bender Ball, like his Dad. The coach, (who is a neighbor of ours) told my son that he did notice that I (his Dad) looked a bit better lately. Well this was a real compliment, because the coach has pretty high standards. I do feel a lot better since starting regular exercise with my Bender Ball.
